Visa options:

Training Visa (Subclass 407)

This visa allows people to complete workplace-based training in Australia on a temporary basis. The training must provide people with additional or enhanced skills in the nominated occupations, tertiary studies or fields of expertise.

 

Your occupation must in the list of eligible skilled occupations - see Subclass 407 Occupation List.

Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (Subclass 457)

The Subclass 457 visa is a temporary visa that allows employers to sponsor approved skilled workers to work in Australia. Positions on this list are currently eligible for sponsorship.

 

The Subclass 457 visa is valid for up to 2 years or 4 years, depending on which list your occupation is on.

Short‑term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL): 2 years (with the option to renew one time for a further two years)

Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL): 4 years

 

What is the benefit to the candidate by being sponsored for  the 457 visa?

The Subclass 457 allows you and your accompanying family members to:

  • live and work temporarily in Australia.
  • your partner will have full work rights.
  • Dependent children can travel with you.
  • the employer may* be able to nominate you for permanent migration after you have been working with them for 2 years.
  • have access to essential health care if your home country has a reciprocal Healthcare Agreement with Australia. Currently the Australian Government has agreements with New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Belgium, Malta, Slovenia and Norway

 

*This option is only available if your occupation is on the MLTSSL.

 

To apply for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

 

Nominated by an approved employer

Your position must be nominated by an employer who is an approved Standard Business Sponsor.

 

Age

There is no maximum age requirement.

 

Skills and qualifications

Your occupation must be on the Consolidated Occupation List. The minimum qualification and or work experience requirement is listed on ANZSCO. If your nominated occupation is a trade occupation you may be required to undertake a skills assessment.

Minimum salaryThe employer must pay the market salary rate which must be at least $53 900.  The market rate is what an employer would pay an Australian resident in the same position.

 

English Language Requirements

If you are a passport holder from Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom or the United States of America you are not required to produce evidence of English proficiency.

 

You will be required to provide proof of English proficiency (overall IELTS score of 5.0 -minimum 4.5 in each band) for trade occupations and other occupations as specified by legislation.

Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) ENS - Permanent visa

The Employer Nomination Scheme visa (Subclass 186) is for skilled workers whose occupation is included in this list.

 

Benefits of ENS

The ENS subclass 186 allows you and your accompanying family members to:

  • live and work permanently in Australia
  • have access to Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
  • study in Australia
  • access certain social security payments
  • apply for Australian citizenship (subject to residency criteria)
  • sponsor other people for permanent residency
  • travel in and out of Australia for five years. If you wish to continue to travel in out and of Australia after this period you will need to apply for a Resident Return visa or citizenship

 

What is the minimum salary my employer must pay under ENS?

The employer must pay the market salary rate which must be at least $53 900. The market rate is what an employer would pay an Australian resident in the same position.

 

 

There are 2 pathways for ENS

 

1. Direct Entry

This is for skilled candidates who are in Australia on temporary visas such as student, working holiday, tourist, occupational trainee, or temporary long stay and skilled candidates who are located outside Australia.

 

2. Temporary Residence Transition Stream

This stream is only for candidates who have been on a subclass 457 with their sponsoring employer visa for at least 2 years

Direct Entry

To apply for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

 

1. Nominated by an approved employer

The employer must nominate you for a suitable position in their business.

 

2. Age

You must be less than 45 years of age at the time of application.

 

3. Skills and qualifications

Your occupation must be on this list. The minimum qualification and or work experience requirement is listed on ANZSCO.

 

4. Work Experience

A minimum of 3 years full-time work experience is required in the occupation for which you are going to be nominated. Full-time is defined as at least 35 hours per week.

 

5. English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.0 is required in each of the four bands. IELTS results are valid for 3 years. Dependents over the age of 18 accompanying the main applicant must have IELTS 4.5 or functional English.

Temporary Residence Transition Stream

To apply for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

 

1. Nominated by your current sponsoring employer

You must have been with your current employer on a subclass 457 for at least 2 years, and your employer must be willing to sponsor you for another 2 years in the same position.

 

 

2. Age

You must be less than 45 years of age at the time of application.

 

3. English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.0 is required in each of the four bands. IELTS results are valid for 3 years.

 

Dependents over the age of 18 accompanying the main applicant must have IELTS 4.5 or functional English.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Subclass 187) RSMS - Permanent visa

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa (Subclass 187) is for skilled workers who are prepared to work in regional Australia for a minimum of 2 years. It is a permanent visa.

 

Benefits of ENS

The RSMS subclass 187 allows you and your accompanying family members to:

  • live and work permanently in Australia
  • have access to Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
  • study in Australia
  • access certain social security payments
  • apply for Australian citizenship (subject to residency criteria)
  • sponsor other people for permanent residency
  • travel in and out of Australia for five years. If you wish to continue to travel in out and of Australia after this period you will need to apply for a Resident Return visa or citizenship
  • live in regional Australia and enjoy the very low cost of living when compared to Australia’s major capital cities.

 

Where is Regional Australia?

Anywhere in Australia except the metropolitan areas of Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Melbourne. All of South Australia, Tasmania, Australian Capital Territory and Western Australia are considered to be regional.

 

There are 2 pathways for RSMS:

 

1. Direct Entry

This is for skilled candidates who are in Australia on temporary visas such as student, working holiday, tourist, occupational trainee or temporary long stay and skilled candidates who are located outside Australia.

 

2. Temporary Residence Transition Stream

This stream is only for candidates who have been on a Subclass 457 with their sponsoring employer visa for at least 2 years.

Temporary Residence Transition Stream

To apply for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

 

Nominated by your current sponsoring employer

You must have been with your current employer on a subclass 457 for at least 2 years and your employer must be willing to sponsor you for another 2 years in the same position.

 

Your place of employment must be in regional Australia.

 

Minimum salary

The employer must pay the market salary rate which is what the employer would pay an Australian resident in the same job.

 

Age

You must be less than 45 years of age at the time of application.

 

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6 .0 is required in each of the four bands. IELTS results are valid for 3 years.

 

Dependents over the age of 18 accompanying the main applicant must have IELTS 4.5 or functional English.

 

 

Visa cancellation

The Department has the power to cancel your RSMS visa if you have not made a genuine effort to commence employment with your RSMS sponsor within 6 months of:

  • your first entry to Australia if you were granted an RSMS visa while you were outside of Australia, or
  • the visa grant if you were granted an RSMS visa while you were in Australia.
  • the Department of Immigration may also seek to cancel your RSMS visa if you have commenced employment but:
    • the employment was terminated within 2 years of commencement, or
    • you did not make a genuine effort to remain in the nominated employment for the period.
  • you will be given an opportunity to provide, in writing, the reasons why your visa should not be cancelled.

Direct Entry

To apply for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

The employer must nominate you for a suitable position in their business in regional Australia.

 

Age

You must be less than 45 years of age at the time of application

 

Skills and qualifications

Positions which are level 1, 2 or 3 on the ANZSCO schedule are eligible for nomination.

 

Skill level 1 positions require a minimum of a bachelor degree or higher or a minimum of 5 years full-time work experience relevant to the position may substitute for the formal qualification. Examples of occupations which are Skill level 1: engineer, hotel manager, business administration manager, accountant.

 

Skill level 2 positions require a minimum of an AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma or a minimum of 3 years full-time work experience relevant to the position may substitute for the formal qualification. Examples of occupations which are Skill level 2:  chef, dental technician

 

Skill level 3 positions require a minimum of an AQF Certificate IV.An AQF Certificate III is acceptable if it was studied in conjunction with 2 years’ supervised work experience. Candidates who simply worked during their studies do not meet this requirement. Examples of occupations which are Skill level 3:  Cook, pastry chef, baker, panel beater, hotel services manager

 

Minimum salary

The employer must pay the market salary rate which is what the employer would pay an Australian resident in the same job. The minimum salary for RSMS is not related to the minimum salary requirement for the subclass 457 Business (Long Stay) visa.

IELTS 6.0 is required in each of the four bands. IELTS results are valid for 3 years. Dependents over the age of 18 accompanying the main applicant must have IELTS 4.5 or functional English.
